Presidents Day Book Pick: Looking at Lincoln
Don't miss out on Maira Kalman's, Looking at Lincoln on this Presidents Day weekend! We are loving this book, written through the eyes of a young girl. She walks down the street and notices a man that reminds her of someone. Later, she realizes that the man she was thinking of, was Abraham Lincoln. This prompts the little girl to head to the library to do some research. The sweet innocence of the book is revealed in the questions and little notes that are intertwined with facts of Lincoln's life. We especially loved the random facts, not as well known, including his love for vanilla cake and apples. His story is told through a series of vibrant illustrations, allowing history come to life on every page. The book ends with a suggestion to visit Lincoln at his memorial in Washington, D.C. Here, she writes, "and you can look into his beautiful eyes. Just look." This is the first picture book we have read by Maira Kalman. I'm pretty sure it won't be our last!
Who's it for? This book is recommended for anyone 5 and up. The reading level is 3.3.
