It's Back to school night for us tonight and I couldn't think of a better book to be thinking about as we meet Kylie's principal tonight! This book is a modern spin off of the ever popular tale, The Emporer's New Clothes, by Hans Christian Anderson. Mr. Bundy is a sharp-dressing principal. He dresses in suits every day and tries to look his best. To follow along with the original story, some tricksters sell Mr. Bundy a spectacular suit that can only be seen by certain people. Of course, noone wants to admit that they cannot see the suit and the inevitable happens...Mr. Bundy shows up in front of the whole school in his undies! Thankfully, all of the teachers and students hand him clothes to wear. Underneath all of the silliness, there is a theme of honesty and conceit.
Lesson Plans/Activities: Hand your students an empty body template and have them dress your principal in outrageous clothes! A colleague of mine used to do this every school year and it was so funny to see the different outfits the students came up with! Display them and then make your own classroom book.
